Choosing a hotel on Via Ovidio in Igea Marina means staying in the heart of the tourist area, a short distance from the beach and within walking distance of most of the resort's amenities. The road runs parallel to the coast and passes through a fairly large portion of Igea Marina: therefore, distances and features vary slightly depending on the section you stay on.
The sea is still close by. In the area around numbers 36-46, for example, the hotels are about 100-115 meters from the beach, while further along the street the distances can vary. This makes it a convenient location, especially for those who want to get to and from the beach several times a day without using a car.
The beach at Igea Marina is typical of this stretch of the Romagna Riviera: wide, sandy, and well-equipped, with numerous beach clubs. The coastline is ideal for holidays with children, but also offers sports fields, entertainment, and activities for those who want to combine relaxation with activity.
Those who prefer not to always use a beach resort can also find stretches of free beach. One of the best-known is the Porto Canale area, where the free beach is also used for events and demonstrations. Other stretches are found towards the northern part of Igea Marina.
Via Ovidio is also convenient for reaching the center of Igea Marina. The stretch around numbers 36-46 is approximately 600 meters, so it only takes about ten minutes on foot. This is where shops, bars, and evening strolls are concentrated, especially during the summer season.
One of the most attractive aspects of the town is the Parco del Gelso, a large green space behind the beach. For those staying for several days, it's a great alternative to the beach: you can go walking, running, cycling, or simply spend a few hours in the greenery. The park also makes this part of Bellaria Igea Marina particularly attractive for families.
Cycling is a very practical way to get around. The coastal area is almost completely flat, allowing you to easily reach Bellaria, the canal port, and other areas of Igea Marina. For a longer ride, you can continue toward San Mauro Mare and Cesenatico, or head toward Rimini along the coast.
The Bellaria-Igea Marina canal harbor is also worth a stroll. It separates Bellaria from Igea Marina and remains one of the places tied to the city's maritime tradition. During the summer, it hosts events, food festivals, and seaside events.
After passing the port, you enter the Bellaria area and reach Isola dei Platani, the pedestrian area along Via Paolo Guidi. It's the main shopping and strolling hub in Bellaria's city center, hosting regular markets and events. It's not right next to Via Ovidio, but it could easily become a destination for a different kind of evening.
For those arriving without a car, the Igea Marina train station is also useful. The distance varies significantly along Via Ovidio: from numbers 36-46, it's about 1.1 km, while from other parts of town, it's significantly shorter. The train also allows you to reach Rimini, Cesenatico, Cervia, and other coastal towns without worrying about parking.
If you're traveling with kids, in addition to the beach and Parco del Gelso, you can plan a day at the theme parks along the Riviera. Italia in Miniatura is located north of Rimini and is one of the closest destinations; moving south, you'll find Fiabilandia, while toward Ravenna, you can reach Mirabilandia.
It's also worth spending a few hours exploring the less seaside part of Bellaria Igea Marina. The Saracen Tower, built in 1673 as part of the coastal defense system, houses a collection of shells and marine artifacts. Another site tied to the city's cultural history is Alfredo Panzini's Casa Rossa, the villa purchased by the writer in 1909 and now a museum.
For a longer trip, you can leave the coast entirely. Santarcangelo di Romagna is one of the easiest destinations, with its historic center built on a hill and caves dug underground. Continuing toward the Marecchia Valley, you can reach Verucchio and San Leo, while in the opposite direction, Cesena offers an interesting historic center and the Malatestiana Library.
The cuisine also reflects the connection between the sea and Romagna. Alongside piadina and fresh pasta, you'll find sardines, fritto misto, grilled fish, and other traditional seafood dishes. The connection with local gastronomy is still very much present in the city's events, some of which are dedicated specifically to piadina and seafood.
Via Ovidio is therefore an attractive area, especially if you're looking for a vacation away from constant car travel. The sea, the center of Igea Marina, and daily services are close by, while bicycle and train access make it easy to expand your excursions. The presence of Parco del Gelso also adds a green alternative to the beach, especially useful for longer stays and for those traveling with children.
