The hotels on Viale Italia in Cervia are spread along a road parallel to the coast, connecting the seaside resort of Cervia with Pinarella. The sea remains very close, generally about 55-130 meters, while the distance from the center varies significantly: from about 1.3 km in the first stretch, it grows to over 5 km further south. It is therefore a street with two souls: closer to the center in the northern section and increasingly connected to the pine forest of Pinarella as you go south. An interesting location for exploring on foot or by bicycle, among the beach, greenery, Porto Canale, and places linked to the salt tradition.

Staying on Viale Italia in Cervia
Staying on Viale Italia in Cervia
Staying on Viale Italia in Cervia means having the sea nearby, but also being able to choose from a variety of locations. The road runs parallel to the coast for several kilometers, starting from the seaside resort of Cervia and continuing south through Pinarella. Therefore, before choosing your accommodation, it's helpful to consider not only the distance from the beach, but also the section of the road where your accommodation is located.
The sea is one of the main attractions. Considering the facilities along Viale Italia, the beach is approximately 55 to 130 meters away. In most cases, it only takes a few minutes' walk to reach the beach establishments, even on the southernmost stretches of the road.
What varies significantly, however, is the distance from the center of Cervia. In the northern section of Viale Italia, you're about 1.3-2 km from the center, while continuing through Pinarella, the distance gradually increases to about 4-5 km. If you frequently walk to the historic center, therefore, the first stretch is preferable; if, however, you're primarily looking for the sea, greenery, and a more secluded area, Pinarella offers a different setting.
The Pinarella pine forest is one of the most distinctive features of the southern section of the avenue. The greenery extends parallel to the beach, creating a natural strip between the urban area and the sea. It's a pleasant environment for walking, running, or spending a few hours in the shade, especially useful even on the hottest days.
Those staying in the area closest to Cervia can easily reach the historic center and the Porto Canale. Here you'll find Piazza Garibaldi, the Cathedral, the Torre San Michele, and the Magazzini del Sale, evidence of the city's centuries-old relationship with the production and trade of salt. One of the warehouses also houses the MUSA – Salt Museum, where you can learn more about the history of the salt pans and the salt-worker families.
The Cervia Salt Pans are another must-see. They're less than 3 km from the northern end of Viale Italia; from the start of the avenue, for example, it's about 2.7 km. They're part of the Po Delta Regional Park and are interesting both for their landscape and for birdlife observation, including flamingos, which are present at certain times of the year.
Viale Italia is also an interesting route for cyclists. The terrain is completely flat, allowing you to travel along the coast between Cervia, Pinarella, and Tagliata, or head toward the city center and Porto Canale. Cycling is particularly useful in the southernmost stretches, where distances from the city center become less suitable for a normal stroll.
The distance from the Cervia-Milano Marittima station also varies depending on the point of the road: from the stretch closest to Cervia, it's about 1.8 km, while from the southern part of Pinarella, it can be over 5 km. For those arriving by train, it's therefore important to consider the location of your accommodation and, if necessary, complete the journey by bus or taxi.
The location also makes it easy to plan days away from the beach. Mirabilandia is about 14-15 km from the stretch of Viale Italia closest to Cervia, while to the north you can reach Milano Marittima, its pine forest, and the area's outdoor activities.
Viale Italia is therefore a street that offers multiple ways to experience Cervia. In the northern section, the center is relatively close; as you continue toward Pinarella, you're further away from the historic heart and the greenery increases. The sea, however, remains just a short walk away along practically the entire length of the avenue.
